Breaking the Habit of Unreliable Braking Systems
Diverse weather and road conditions are hard on brakes. This fact is known by heart especially by the drivers. They anticipate that the car's disc brake pads will wear out over time. Why do my Mechanical Disc Brakes on my Iron Horse Maverick 5.5 squeak every time i start riding and break?
I starts sqeaking as if there wet or somthing so i brake and then eventually after like 24 feet they stop and go back to normal but the next time i ride it happens again.
if you feel that the brake has lost its stopping power then the pads maybe contaminated. you need to remove them then wash them with dish washing liquid (very effective degreaser) and rinse thoroughly with water. if a pebble is lodged in the pads you need to sand it with very fine sandpaper. for extreme oil contamination, you can try baking the pads in an oven or you can just replace the pads with a new one.
